Alexander Eduardo V. Ferreira

Alexander Eduardo Vicente Ferreira, was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He graduated in Military Sciences from the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras in Resende, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has a master’s degree in public management and government from the University of the Pacific in Lima, Peru, and a postgraduate degree in Military Sciences from the Schools of Officer Improvement and Army Command and General Staff. Its main areas of specialization, at the strategic level, revolve around Information Security, Cybersecurity, Intelligence, and Public Management/People Management, with an emphasis on studies of modern conflicts and the application of the International Law of Armed Conflict (DICA) in cyber actions, unconventional and transnational threats, hemispheric and global Cyber Defense, as well as Cyber Security in Latin America. In recent years, he has added Hybrid Warfare to his priority areas of research and publication. He is a graduate of several courses at the William Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies (WJP-CHDS). Furthermore, as a graduate, he carried out numerous extension activities in International Politics, International Security and Defense in academic entities in the United States, Spain, Peru and Ecuador.

In terms of publications, he wrote, collaborated and is the author of some articles about his specialty in academic journals on Cybersecurity and on the Integrated Border Monitoring System (SISFRON), the latter being published in the Defense News, in Lima, Peru. In the area of public and government management, he was Counterintelligence Advisor to the Army Commander and Parliamentary Advisor to the Army, with the National Congress. His last role, for more than 3 years, was Chief of Staff of the Brazilian Cyber Defense Command. At the Inter-American Defense College, Colonel and Professor Alexander is responsible for teaching an elective course on Cybersecurity and Defense, as well as participating in classes in the Main Course (CORE) of the Master’s Degree in Inter-American Defense and Security. In this course, students are presented with the key elements to consider, in terms of cybersecurity and public security, reviewing the physiognomies of cyber threats and debates on their treatment, highlighting the role of cooperation in this field. The elective course on Applied Cybersecurity addresses the key elements to consider when managing risks associated with cybersecurity.
